Dr. Maureen Schwehr, Director

Dr. Schwehr founded the Heartwood Institute in 2006 in order to weave intuitive and scientifically based approaches together in teaching CranioSacral Therapy. Classes are available in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Arizona.

Dr. Schwehr received her doctorate degree in Naturopathic Medicine from Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington. She is the Director of Integrative Services for Sierra Tucson, a residential treatment facility working with patients for mood, chronic pain, and addiction issues in Tucson, AZ. Prior to this position, Dr. Schwehr had an active Naturopathic practice where she worked with her patients to find natural, non-invasive treatments for their ailments.

Dr. Schwehr has taught CranioSacral Therapy since 2004. She has taught at Bastyr University, the Cortiva Institute, Desert Institute of the Healing Arts in Tucson, AZ and at various locations across the county.

Dr. Schwehr brings to the classroom extensive experience with CranioSacral Therapy and a unique intuitive approach that helps bring out the best in her students.

Dr. Schwehr teaches CranioSacral Therapy lll and V.  These classes teach students how to support and guide emotional healing on many levels.

Janet Berryhill, CST-M, Director of our Twin Cities Office & Instructor

Janet has taught Craniosacral Therapy with the Heartwood Institute since 2008. She received her CranioSacral Therapy training from the Heartwood Institute and Dr. Carol Phillips in 2005 and 2006.

Janet has a unique perspective that brings CranioSacral to a new level.   As an experienced and natural teacher, Janet inspires her students to learn with her calm clear ways of presenting class material.  Janet strives to explore different ways of teaching so that students can learn deeply and grow their knowledge. She has developed innovative classes that bring CranioSacral work to new places. “It is important to me to create a welcoming space so we have a comfortable place to explore, learn, and enjoy being a beginner. My passion is to build a healing community in every class and create opportunities to continue that community after class ends.”
 
In addition to her private CranioSacral Therapy practice in Roseville Minnesota, Janet is a certified and registered yoga teacher and teaches yoga in Mahtomedi and St. Paul. Learn more about Janet at janetberryhill.org

Janet teaches CranioSacral Therapy I, II, and IV, and Build Your Skills Workshops. These classes teach foundational skills, and then expand on students’ abilities to bring their work to the next level.

Michelle Case, CST-M, Instructor

Michelle has taught Craniosacral Therapy with the Heartwood Institute since 2013.  In addition to receiving her Craniosacral certification in 2012, Michelle also practices Reiki, Pranic Healing, Animal Communication, and Intuitive Reading.

Michelle is a warm and inviting teacher; she looks for the best in everyone. She has a natural ease and creates a learning space where her students feel fully accepted. Her students tell us Michelle is always there to encourage them, lift them up and push them along, so they feel comfortable taking risks and making mistakes. No matter where they start, Michelle has a way of meeting students where they are and helping them enrich qualities they did not know they posessed.

Andrea Demont, LMT, CST

Andrea has a true passion for craniosacral therapy! She is a lifelong learner and her bodywork has been influenced by studying reiki, massage, biodynamic skeletal therapy, dermoneuro manipulation, and neural manipulation. Andrea was certified through Heartwood Institute in 2018

Andrea enjoys simplifying concepts for new learners and helping students build their intuition and trust in themselves. “I love that my work is so meditative. Tuning into a client’s body and listening to messages that help it heal is so rewarding. Doing this work has changed the way I approach all of life. Slow, patient presence has improved almost every situation I can think of.”

Cari Smiley, LMT, CST-M

Cari has taught with Heartwood Institute since 2017. She is the owner of Blissfully U Massage and Bodywork in Albertville, MN.

Cari is a trauma-informed massage therapist who has a wide range of training in craniosacral therapy, therapeutic massage, trigger point, deep tissue, reflexology, cupping, neuromeningeal manipulation, biodynamic skeletal therapy, and trauma. Cari graduated from the Center Point School of Massage and Shiatsu in 2015 and was certified in craniosacral therapy in 2017.

Cari’s vibrant energy and depth of knowledge makes topics come alive. Students love learning from her— she has picked up a lot of wisdom from working with many clients over the years. “Every client is a teacher.”

Dan Sicchitano, L.Ac., LMT, CST-M, Instructor

Dan Sicchitano is a talented teacher who brings passion to this work. He understands the workings of the human body and has strong emphasis on clinical effectiveness of his technique. Dan has integrated cupping into his bodywork for the past seven years having the honor of learning his craft from Bruce Bentley, the internationally known master of cupping.  From his many areas of study, he has a deep sense of the body and  what it needs to heal. Dan has taught with the Heartwood Institute since 2016.

Dan has an active bodywork and acupuncture practice in Rogers, Minnesota.

Dan has certifications in Cupping, CranioSacral Therapy, Battlefield and NADA Acupuncture, as well as Personal Training.  He graduated from the Center Point School of Massage and Shiatsu in 2010. He is a licensed acupuncturist and obtained his masters in Traditional Chinese Medicine at American Academy of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.  In addition, he has studied Anatomy Trains, Pediatric and Medical Tui Na, and Visceral Manipulation.

“I am passionate about teaching cupping so that we create new practitioners to carry on this ancient healing tradition. I am a hands-on teacher, so you will get plenty of practice time in my classes. My goal is that students leave my class with practical and useful techniques that they can apply immediately to their work the next day”.

Michelle Warner, CST- M, Instructor

Michelle is a CranioSacral Therapist who has also completed a wide range of study including Reiki, Spiritual Development, Quantum Healing, Hands-On Healing, Medical Intuitive training, and Shamanism. She currently has a CranioSacral practice in White Bear Lake, Minnesota.

She received her CranioSacral Therapy training (levels 1 -5) and other related education at the Heartwood Institute, and has taught a variety of classes at the Institute since 2009. 

Michelle came to this work after she had received treatments and experienced the amazing results, which led her to the decision to learn CranioSacral techniques herself. She says, “It is complementary to all other modalities and therapies. This is really my passion. What I like most is that each session is unique and personalized to the client -- No session is ever the same. This work is multi-faceted, the healing can be on both physical and emotional levels. My favorite part about teaching this class is the empowerment it gives to each person and that it can be transformational for them. I am so grateful, this has truly been a blessing in my life.” 

Michelle teaches Build Your Skills Workshops with a focus on working with the organs,  and CranioSacral Therapy V with Dr. Schwehr. This class is designed for students who want to deepen their work by focusing on their personal growth and transformation.
